I'm looking at getting tubeless tires for my mountain bike. I have a cannondale f5. I want something light and not expensive. Any suggestions?I ride the new IRC Formula pro-tubeless HC, the HC stands for hard compound, and they have a SC, soft compound. They weigh in at 290 grams per tire. That is very light since you don't have a tube. I use the Hutchinson sealant and have never gotten a flat. The tires run about $60 bucks for a tire, a little pricey. Get them and forget about flats. PeaceUnless your rims are tubeless compatible, not expensive is not an option, you would have to either replace your rims, or buy new wheels. Tubeless tires are not necessarily any lighter than conventional tires, because the tubeless tire casing has to be heavier to retain air, and tubeless beads are heavier than those on conventional tires. Over all, a tubeless tire weighs about the same as its conventional equivalent + tube.tubeless

how are you going to fix a flat?
carry a whole spare tire?
stop beside the road [in rain/cold/etc] with glue and a prayer?
wle.
Tubeless tires requires wheels that can support it, here is a nice set although I have no experience with them. The wheelsets I understand costs around $1K, this one for closeout is $788
The tires are usually starting around $50 each.

I have not tried tubeless or tubular, they are for racing since it is quite a bit lighter than regular clinchers and can support much lower air pressure where clinchers would get a pinch flat. Tubular is for road bikes, both type would require you to glue the tires on to the rims.
In case when you get a flat with tubeless, you use a tube as a spare and just stick it in and take off the glued on tire stems and it becomes a regular clincher.
Get the Continental Leader or Flow ( 26 x 2.1 ) pair for $39.98 -www.blueskycycling.comTubeless tires aren't worth the hassle.
You need special rims, and that plus the tires are gonna
cost some real cash.
Stick with traditional tires and heavy duty tubes. Less problems
with snake bites that way.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
