In Singapore SG, what is SG and what does it stand for?
Each country has a 2 letter code, for eg:SG - Singapore
MY - Malaysia..
IN - India
ID - Indonesia
TH - Thailand
their currecy is coded as the 3 letter code..
SGD - Singapore Dollar
MYR - Malaysian Ringgit
INR - Indian Rupee
IDR - Indonesian Rupiah
THB - Thai Bath
You will notice Singapore is also SIN, now this is an airport/city code..
SIN - Singapore
MAL - Malaysia but usually is KUL for Kuala Lumpur
MUM - Mumbai
JKT - Jakarta
BKK - Bangkok
U will usually see these codes on your airticket.. Hope that helps... This is the ISO code (International Organization for Standardization) for 2 letter code for Singapore. For Singapore currency, there is a 3 letter code "SGD". For Changi Airport its "SIN" for Singapore.
This is an interesting subject. Can you figure why "NL" is used for Holland? and "DE" for Germany? Which countries does "IN", "ID" belongs to? Knowing such codes allow you to find out where a website is based in. eg sg.yahoo.com
You may also see things like S'pore. That's also an abbreviation for Singapore.
SinGapore (or SinGapura previously) means Lion City, and SinGa particularly means lion, which is our icon. So in short, SG.
SG = Singapore
Singapore = SG
SGD=Singapore Dollar
