How long does it take a cat to get used to a new dog.We got new dog after my last one died. ?

The cat is used to dogs as had my old dog before him.He has scrached dogs nose a couple of times but not been really vicious he also has hissed a couple of times if the dog has got to close think they are establishing pecking order any advice. My cat still hates my dog and its been about 8 years. Depends on the cat and the dog I suppose.

I remember when we brought our dog home and our cat first saw him. She arched her back, hissed and run off. It was worrying! She soon got used to him though, it took a few days. Now they sleep next to each other.

Hi, I have a cat and a dog and unfortuantly it takes about 1 - 2 years for them to get used to each other.

The cat may never get used to the dog, mine didn't but that's because mine wants to play and chase him all the time. Bring the dog into the house and sit her down, sit the cat on the couch and stroke it slowly while speaking to it calmly, let it get used to the dog near it but don't lift the cat and bring it over to the dog, that's just mean. Let it adjust with you next to it and the dog a good bit away from it, but near enough that it can see the dog. Do this every day, and the cat mite start to get used to the dog.
