eBay Suffers Another Crash
eBay engineers worked through the night to rebuild a corrupted system disk and the company has assured customers no data has been lost.
Users who surf to the famous trader post are greeted by an apology and explanation that service are temporarily available.
eBay said bidding will be halted for a full 24 hours after restoration is complete to ensure that fair bidding practice will not be disrupted.
Earlier this week eBay unveiled a site redesign credited to user feedback, but eBay officials are declaring that the new format and the system crash are not connected.
eBay's announcement board claims that engineers have "identified the root cause" of the problem and are working on the solution, which will "minimize the chance of the problem reoccurring."
eBay shares were down more than $8 on the news.
eBay engineers' most recent target system recovery time is 5 p.m. Eastern. Shortly after the outage occurred, eBay was estimating the service would only be down for three hours.
