A Fatality in the Online Grocery Wars
The Web-based grocery shopping service OnCart, formerly called Shopper's Express, reportedly shut down its online operation March 6.
OnCart President Allison Abraham said the service was closing in a terse letter on the site.
OnCart, which delivered non-perishable groceries, went head-to-head with Peapod in June 1997 by going into Atlanta where the two services competed directly. Peapod and OnCart also competed in Dallas.
OnCart said the Bashas grocery chain in the Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ area is working on a plan for an online grocery program of its own.
